What to Expect: Newborn Session
📅 When to Schedule
Book during your 2nd or 3rd trimester! We'll tentatively schedule around your due date, then adjust once baby arrives. Ideal session timing is 5-14 days old when baby is sleepiest.
🏠 Session Setup
I'll use a room in your home with good natural light (usually master bedroom or living room). Don't stress about having a perfect house - I'm focused on your baby, not your decor! Just need a window with natural light.
👕 What Baby Should Wear
Simple is best! Options include:
- • Just a diaper for those classic newborn shots
- • Simple onesie in white, cream, or soft colors
- • Swaddled in neutral muslin or knit wraps
- • Any special items (hospital hat, family heirloom blanket)
👨👩👧 Family Photos
Parents and siblings are absolutely included! Family photos typically happen first when everyone is fresh. We'll get sibling-meeting-baby shots, parents adoring their newborn, and all the sweet family connections.
⏰ Session Length
Plan for 2-3 hours. This seems long, but newborn sessions can't be rushed! Most time is spent getting baby comfortable, feeding breaks, diaper changes, and soothing. We go at baby's pace - always.
🌡️ Temperature
Keep your home toasty - around 75-78°F. Seems hot for adults, but baby needs to be warm to stay sleepy and comfortable. Parents can wear short sleeves!

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I book my newborn session?
Book during your 2nd or 3rd trimester! This secures your spot on my calendar. We'll schedule around your due date and adjust once baby arrives. Don't wait until after delivery - I book up!
What if my baby arrives early or late?
No problem! Your due date is just a tentative hold. Once baby arrives, we'll schedule the actual session for when baby is 5-14 days old (or as close as possible). Flexibility is built in!
My house isn't perfect. Can we still do an in-home session?
YES! You just had a baby - no one expects perfection. I only need one room with a window. I'll find the best angles and lighting. Trust me, I've seen it all and your "messy" house is totally fine!
What if baby cries during the session?
All babies cry - it's completely normal! We'll take breaks for feeding, changing, and soothing as needed. The session length accounts for this. Some of the sweetest photos happen when baby settles right after crying.
Can we include our older child(ren)?
Absolutely! Sibling photos are precious. We typically do family photos first when older kids are fresh and cooperative. Then they can play while we focus on baby shots. Keep expectations realistic - toddlers especially have short attention spans!
Do you travel outside Chillicothe?
Yes! I serve families throughout Livingston County and surrounding areas. Travel fees may apply for locations outside Chillicothe. Contact me to discuss your location.
What should I wear for maternity photos?
Wear something that makes you feel beautiful and comfortable! Form-fitting dresses and gowns photograph beautifully and showcase your bump. I have maternity gowns available to borrow if you prefer. Solid colors generally work better than busy patterns. Coordinate with partner/family but don't match exactly.
When will our photos be ready?
Your online gallery will be ready within 2-3 weeks. You'll receive an email with a link to view, download, and share your images. All photos are fully edited and high-resolution. For newborn sessions booked while you're pregnant, I hold a spot for you so there's no delay after baby arrives.
What props and outfits do you provide for newborns?
For lifestyle newborn sessions, we keep it simple and natural - your baby in their own clothes or diaper, wrapped in soft blankets, in your arms and in your home. This creates authentic, timeless images. I bring neutral wraps and simple props. If you want specific styled props, let me know in advance!
Can Dad be in the photos too?
Absolutely! In fact, I encourage it. Some of the most precious photos are of dads with their newborns. We'll do individual parent shots, couple shots, and full family photos. Don't forget - these photos are about capturing your growing family, not just mom and baby!
